Our Care for Society

At TAZARA, we realize that we do not operate in a vacuum. Our relationship to the society and communities in which we exist is a critical factor in our ability to continue to operate peacefully and effectively. TAZARA spans a distance of 1,860km, which distance is impossible to police and monitor without enlisting the support of the local communities. In some cases, the infrastructure and installations of TAZARA are completely in the hands and at the mercy of the local communities. We truly value the support from the communities living around the TAZARA infrastructure.

It is our strong conviction, therefore, that it is necessary for us to show care for the communities that host us. Throughout the entire stretch of our infrastructure, the Authority affirms the care for the communities in which we operate by hosting and running hospitals and schools where we have identified the need for such.

Health Facilities

The Authority provides clinics and health facilities at Chozi, Kasama, Mpika, Mununga quarry and New Kapiri Mposhi in the Zambian Region as well as at Dar es Salaam, Mlimba and Kongolo in the Tanzanian Region.

The clinics were established to service TAZARA workers and their families before they are referred to larger hospitals that are well equipped. The Authority employs its own staff and acquires own medicines.

In Zambia, in the recent past, the government has been seconding medical staff and also delivering medical kits to some selected clinics, which also service surrounding areas. TAZARA also, at times, runs mobile clinic to side way stations where there are no medical facilities. Mobile Clinics depend on the availability of medicines.
